11 Investing in the district Omagh Environmental Improvement Scheme & Revitalisation Project completed The Council has successfully delivered a £222,000 Environmental Improvement Scheme and Revitalisation Project in Omagh, funded by the Department for Communities. Improvement works included new drainage, replacement of pavements, new street lighting, railings, signage and street furniture. A number of property owners also had the opportunity to upgrade their shop frontage with new shop fronts, signage, guttering and downpipes, new windows and shutters, power washing and painting. Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has been offered £2.6 million to deliver a Local Peace and Reconciliation Action Plan for the district. The Action Plan, which will be launched later this year, will guide a range of programmes in the district that will promote positive relations between people from different communities and backgrounds under three key areas: • Children and Young People • Shared Spaces and Services • Building Positive Relations The £2.6 million funding has been made available by the PEACE IV Programme, financed through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and match funded by the relevant Government departments in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. A voluntary PEACE IV Partnership has been established to support and monitor the effective delivery of the Action Plan. The Partnership includes Councillors and representatives from statutory agencies and social partners. A number of information events about the programmes and initiatives that will be delivered locally will take place later this year. These will be advertised closer to the time in local newspapers and on the Council’s website and social media channels. Council offered £2.6 million Peace IV funding to help build positive relations The Fermanagh and Omagh Local Action Group (LAG) Ltd is the delivery mechanism for Priority 6 of the Northern Ireland Rural Development Programme (NIRDP) 2014-2020 in the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council area. The Fermanagh and Omagh area has been allocated a project budget of £6.8 million and the LAG is responsible for administering this allocation via the following Schemes, which are currently progressing: • Rural Business Investment Scheme: £3 million • Rural Basic Services Scheme: £1.8 million • Village Renewal Scheme: £1.25 million • Rural Broadband Scheme: £250,000 • Co-operation: £500,000 The LAG will be opening a second call for Theme 1 (Support for Traditional Industries) of the Rural Business Investment Scheme in Autumn 2017. The focus of Theme 1 will be on the priority sectors of manufacturing, engineering, construction and related services. The LAG will be hosting a number of funding workshops across the district to promote this call, details of which will be widely advertised closer to the time.
