14 | Inform Summer 2017 OASIS Plaza scoops top international award Best Kept success for Enniskillen Celebrating success Omagh’s OASIS Plaza, (Omagh Accessible Shared & Inclusive Space) scooped the Outstanding Achievement Award at the CEEQUAL 2016 awards in London in the ‘Community & Stakeholder Relations’ category. CEEQUAL is the evidence-based sustainability assessment, rating and awards scheme for civil engineering, infrastructure, landscaping and public realm projects. It promotes and celebrates high environmental and social performance in the specification, design and construction of civil engineering works. The judging panel commented on the potential of the project to make a difference and that it had made a bold statement on how to bring communities together. Since its opening in 2015, the OASIS Plaza has been the venue for several large-scale events and is set to host the district’s first ever jiving festival in August (see page 16). Enniskillen was awarded the title of Best Kept Medium Town in Northern Ireland in the Northern Ireland Amenity Council Abbey Insurance Best Kept Awards last autumn, in recognition of the tidiness and presentation of the town. The island town’s success follows on from the success of Omagh which won the Best Kept Large Town category in the 2015 awards. The Awards, organised in partnership with Fermanagh & Omagh Sports Forum, recognise and celebrate local sports men and women, individuals and teams, for outstanding sporting performance in 2016. Winners at the 2016 Fermanagh and Omagh Sports Forum Sports Awards were: Chairperson of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Mary Garrity, with Council officers from the Parks and Open Space service.
