03 Fermanagh and Omagh District Council assumed responsibility for direct service provision on 1 April 2015. An interim review of the Council’s Corporate Plan has now been undertaken and a Corporate Plan 2017-19 Update, developed to align with the district’s Community Plan, has now been agreed. The Council is well on its way to delivering on the commitments set out in its initial Corporate Plan and is fully committed to delivering on the remaining commitments in the period 2017- 2019. One of the greatest achievements for the district has been the development of the Fermanagh and Omagh 2030 Community Plan. This significant Plan brings together the knowledge, expertise and collective resources of a range of partners across the public, private and community and voluntary sectors – all working towards a single agreed vision for the area. The next step is to complete the development of the supporting delivery plans. In accordance with its statutory responsibility the Council is the lead body in the development of the Plan and in the initiation and maintenance of the Community Planning process. I compliment all the partners, the Community Planning Partnership, the Council Members and Officers involved. Significant work continues on our district’s Local Development Plan, which together with the Community Plan will guide the long-term development of the district. A more detailed update on both plans is available later in this publication. This year, a key priority for the Council is to implement newWaste Management initiatives to meet new legislative requirements, aimed at increasing recycling, reducing the quantity of waste going to landfill, and mitigating against the potential for significant fines should the Council fail to comply with reducing quotas that apply to the quantity of waste that can be landfilled. We also aim to make waste services more efficient and effective. To support the Council, grant funding of £996,859 was secured from the ‘Rethink Waste’ initiative. An additional 24,000 residents will avail of a separate food waste collection service. However, the success of the new waste management arrangements is dependent on the support and co-operation of everyone in the district. I ask that you all make a conscious effort to fully support the new arrangements with the aim of sustainably managing our cherished environment. During the last year, many other projects and initiatives have been undertaken across the Council area, many of which are detailed in this newsletter. We are fully committed to publishing a newsletter on a regular basis and would welcome your feedback especially as we are considering alternative communication channels. I encourage you to give us your opinion on this and on any other aspect of Council business. I hope you will find this newsletter both informative and interesting.
