Inform Winter 2016 11 Get active, more often Sport NI’s Every Body Active programme, which is part funded by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, offers a wide range of activities so that you can get more active, more often at a time and place that suits you. The Council is currently offering a range of activities and coaching in various sports as part of the programme. These can be delivered in your local community and in most cases, are available free of charge. Supporting our Elite Athletes The Elite Athlete Gold Card Scheme enables amateur athletes from the district who have achieved national or international success in their sport to train at any of our four leisure centres free of charge. Over the past year Fermanagh & Omagh Sports Forum, which administers the Scheme on behalf of the Council, has awarded more than 20 Elite Athlete Gold Cards to eligible applicants. For further information contact the Forum directly on 028 6632 4121 Active lifestyles Walk, jog, parkrun! parkrun is a free weekly 5k timed walk, jog or run which takes place at 9.30am on Saturdays at the Fermanagh Lakeland Forum, Enniskillen and Omagh Leisure Complex. Although parkrun is not a race, participants’ times are recorded helping them to track their progress around the 5k route each week and see their development. parkrun is a great way to improve your fitness at your own pace. Nominations for the Fermanagh & Omagh Sports Forum Sports Awards are now open. The Awards, which are organised by Fermanagh & Omagh Sports Forum, on behalf of the Council, recognise and celebrate local athletes and teams, coaches and volunteers for outstanding sporting performance in 2016. Award categories include: • Senior Sports Personality • Junior Sports Personality • Juvenile Sports Personality • Senior Sports team • Junior Sports team • Coach of the Year • Community Coach of the Year • Disability Sports Coach of the Year • Service to Sport Award • Outstanding Achievement Award Nominate your sports star today Anyone can nominate. There is no need to submit multiple nominations for the one person, as the final list of nominees will be selected by Fermanagh & Omagh Sports Forum and will not be influenced by the number of nominations. Nomination forms are available to download from our website at www.fermanaghomagh.com . Alternatively pick up a nomination form from any of our four leisure centres or our offices at The Grange, Omagh or the Townhall, Enniskillen. Award winners will be announced at a special awards presentation evening at the Killyhevlin Hotel, Enniskillen on Friday 10 February 2017. Closing date for nominations 5 pm, Friday 6 January 2017. The Council’s ‘What’s Your Game?’ Club and Coach Education Programme is a sports education initiative which aims to promote excellence in local sport. The Programme includes: Courses Through the programme courses are available at a subsidised rate in: • First aid • Safeguarding • Autism and sports coaching • Children’s coaching • Good club governance • Boccia coaching Expert master classes Master classes in strength and conditioning for athletes keen to improve their personal performance. Sports club and coach education & training New indoor soft play areas Check out the new indoor soft play areas at the Fermanagh Lakeland Forum in Enniskillen (suitable for children up to 7 years old) and Castle Park Leisure Centre in Lisnaskea (suitable for children up to 12 years old). The indoor soft play areas are a great way for children to have lots of fun while getting active. They are ideal for celebratory events and for children to have fun and games with friends and family. Children’s classes at Omagh Leisure Complex A range of classes for children and young people take place at Omagh Leisure Complex. These include Kid’s Aquafit, the only Kid’s Kangoo Jumps in the district, and a number of other sporting activities which are based at the complex.
