15 Current provision and quality A comprehensive review undertaken in 2019/20 identified 110 play parks that were managed and maintained by the Council. This review included a Play Value assessment of each park based on location, play value and care / maintenance. This assessment indicated that: 60% + did not meet the required Play Value standard 75% + did not contain at least one piece of accessible / inclusive play equipment Strategy focus This Play Park Strategy is based on an assessment of the needs of the community, the adequacy and location of existing play parks along with broader trends and the employment of new and emerging innovations in play park design. From this assessment, the provision and management of the play parks can be developed and implemented through Play Plan delivery and maintenance programmes. Implementing the Strategy The Play Park Strategy will provide the direction of play park provision and development until 2030. The Strategy along with the Play Plan will be implemented in an ongoing works programme. Actions will be delivered within the capital budget identified along with regular maintenance and replacement works within the allocated annual revenue budgets. The programme of work can also be supported by grant funding. Whilst a works programme will be developed based on the principles identified within the Strategy, it is important to note that the Play Park Strategy will only guide the Council to deliver within the resources available.
