Destination Play Parks (District play provision) Neighbourhood Equipped Area of Play Local Equipped Area of Play The Council will adopt in extent and scope the three hierarchy categories of play parks as defined by the Fields in Trust (FIT, formally National Playing Fields Association) The following play park hierarchy shall be adopted: Location Play Value Care/Maintenance ‘Gold Standard’ play value = score of 70 or more i.e. Excellent standard; ‘Silver Standard’ play value = score of 60 to 69 i.e. Good standard; ‘Bronze Standard’ play value = score of 50 to 59 i.e. Average standard; and Score under 50, i.e. Poor standard. In order to quantify the standard of an individual play park and the quality of overall play provision within the district a Play Value Assessment tool was developed to enable an objective and criteria-based assessment (consistent with the guidelines issued by the Fields in Trust). This play value assessment tool evaluates play parks based on three categories: 1. 2. 3. The total available score for each play park is 100. Based on the total score, play parks are categorised: The Council will undertake to use ‘Play Value’ scoring to place a qualitive evaluation score to each play park. The Council has agreed that the ‘Play Value’ score will aspire to ‘Gold Standard’ where possible, however, will ensure that ‘Silver Standard’ is achieved and maintained as a minimum standard. 45 Principle 3: Play Park Hierarchy Play Value Score and Minimum Standard
