The selection of materials used in the manufacture of play park equipment and on the site shall be undertaken to ensure the most cost effective and sustainable materials are used. This will ensure that long term benefits will be made from the maintenance, life span of the products and minimising the environmental impact of the production of the materials. All materials shall be identified from sustainable sources. The selection of materials and products shall be made with the aim to minimise maintenance and damage due to vandalism. 50 'Green Space' The Council recognises the importance of interaction between children and older people and the natural environment. Natural areas or ‘Green Space’ provides children and older people with access to a range of opportunities that reflect the natural world such as trees, Sustainability and material selection different surfaces and terrain (grass mounds, slopes) and plants (sensory). Natural areas within play parks provide informal play areas for a variety of abilities. "The value of natural environments over environments to children’s physical and mental health is recognised. It is accepted that natural based settings assist children to concentrate more effectively and to engage more effectively in both physical and creative play". (Bagot, 2005)
