67 The Council will ensure that there is a commitment to the improvement and updating of play parks. It is recognised that all equipment has a life span and that the replacement of equipment and upgrades to parks must be planned and resourced to maintain a suitable standard of asset. Development of play parks shall consider a review of emerging technologies, developments in equipment and best practices. The Council also realises the important role that play parks have for both children and adults with disabilities, including elderly people with Dementia. Play parks can offer an opportunity for these people and their respective carers to experience both the outdoors and respite from their condition. The Council shall consider the introduction of ‘Close Periods’ to create a safe space for this part of our community. Children and adults with a disability Development of Play Parks The Council recognises the importance and impact of the marketing and communication of our play parks. Play parks need to be effectively marketed with facilities and services communicated to both our residents and visitors to the district. In addition to ensuring an equitable provision of safe, challenging and enjoyable play parks across the district, it is important to raise the awareness to both our residents and visitors of these valuable resources available to them. The Council will develop information for residents and visitors on our play parks and their associated facilities. Marketing and promotion of Play Parks As well as appropriate brochures and online information, effective signage will be provided to all play parks to assist residents and visitors find the playground of their choice. The Council will strive to develop a stronger sense of community ‘ownership’ with the aim to reduce vandalism and antisocial behaviour.
