7 The Council is however faced with the challenge of identifying the play parks for upgrade and development along with those for transformation to ‘Green Space’. Locations for new play parks will be identified as part of the strategic aim to ensure there is a fair and equitable distribution of play parks across the district. Delivery of the Strategy Delivery of the strategy will be undertaken by a specialist team and the development of the Play Plan. This process will be guided and determined from the 9 Principles in this strategy in full consultation with our local communities. This document is intended to guide the Council in determining which and where play parks are to be developed, who they cater for, to ensure they are sustainably designed and what additional supporting infrastructure is appropriate and affordable. The aim of the strategy is therefore to ensure that: An appropriate quantity of high-quality play parks is provided; Play parks are situated at the right locations to serve the whole community; Children of all abilities are provided with inclusive and accessible play opportunities which allow them to interact and play with their peers; The provision of play parks is both equality and rural proofed; and There is provision of effective and sustainable asset maintenance within allocated budgets. These aims and Principles will now serve to ensure the current and future needs of both our communities and visitors to our district are met.
