2022-2032 Vistitor Experience Development Plan
What else could and should we be doing? Where can we look to others for lessons on enabling businesses and enabling infrastructure? Some examples of where this has been applied can be seen below: SustainableWater Experiences; Norway's ambition to be recognised as the electric vehicle (EV) capital of the world does not only cover cars and bikes but also extends to on water provisions with the launch of electric cruise vehicles. The Lake District is also setting examples in the provision of EV charging points located close to key activity centres. encouraging visitors to stay longer and experience more. Aligned to our commitment to regenerative tourism, the introduction of electric fleets not only reduces impact but improves visitor experience as there is less disturbance to the sound and tranquility synonymous with the area. This presents an opportunity for ‘Fermanagh Lakelands’ to become a sustainable market leader within the Island of Ireland. Interpretation; The Sliabh Liag Strategic Development Project, opened early 2020, saw a Є 2.3m investment into a visitor centre and interpretation, providing visitors with a reason to dwell and managing their impact on the environment through trail networks. The interpretation not only gives visitors authentic stories but also facilitates essential wayfinding and safety information. 3.7 Where can we learn from? 30 Fermanagh Lakelands & Omagh and The Sperrins Community Engagement; Over-tourism and the negative impact that this has had on resident communities has led to tourism destinations around the globe becoming much more focused upon the impact of tourism on host communities. We understand that this will be a central tenet to the emerging Northern Ireland tourism strategy and it is important to note The Lough Erne Landscape Partnership is already paving the way for community engagement highlighting the importance of understanding and collaboration between those who live around and those who use the Lough everyday. The Burren and Cliffs of Moher Geopark successfully implemented a code of practice for sustainable tourism that focused on 6 principles for a shared vision with thriving committees at the heart; ● working together ● a cared for landscape ● vibrant communities Electric Cruise Boat - Norway ● strengthened livelihoods ● a well understood heritage ● sustainable use of resources
