Medium Term France In 2019, we welcomed 557,000 visitors from France to the island of Ireland (+2% on 2018), who spent €283/£246 million during their time here. French visitors like to be on/ near water, enjoy soft adventure particularly walking, and quality food and drink, presenting a growth opportunity for the region. France is the fourth-largest market for overseas tourism to the island of Ireland. Canada Canada is the 10th largest market for overseas tourism to the island of Ireland. Canadian holidaymakers are active visitors, exploring historical sites and engaging in multiple events and activities while on the island. Canada has traditionally been a strong market for Northern Ireland although return to international travel is showing slower recovery than USA. 3.8 Who are our visitors? 3.8.4 Out of state markets - Medium & Long term 38 Fermanagh Lakelands & Omagh and The Sperrins Long Term Australia/New Zealand In 2019, we welcomed 252,000 visitors from Australia and New Zealand to the island of Ireland, who spent €245/£213 million during their time here. Of this 29% of this market visiting the Island of Ireland travelled to Northern Ireland. Australian and New Zealand visitors stay longer than visitors from almost any other market. Wider Europe 2019 was a record year for overseas visitors fromMainland Europe to the island of Ireland. Mainland Europe is now the largest single source of holidaymakers and revenue for the island of Ireland. In 2019, Mainland Europe delivered one-third of all overseas tourism revenue and one-third of all overseas visitors. With 338,000 visitors fromMainland Europe travelling to Northern Ireland and spending £84 million.
