2022-2032 Vistitor Experience Development Plan
The Fermanagh and Omagh District offers a tranquil landscape with panoramic views of its lakes and picturesque mountaintops. Made up of boaters and sight seekers, farmers and bodacious trails, craftspeople and storytellers, its well earned reputation is steeped in heritage and culture. Its unspoiled lands and natural landscapes are what make Fermanagh and Omagh great. The area is the largest in NI in terms of landmass with the lowest population. However, across the engagement, the general consensus was that there was a huge opportunity to commercialise more of our assets, whilst maintaining our natural heritage and biodiverse landscapes. There is a view within the private sector that the public sector is not providing the infrastructure for commercial operators to develop at key locations. On the other hand, wide ranging responsibilities and priorities within public bodies can make it difficult to engage private operators in delivery. At the same time, there is the old adage - something with value is valuable. Free experiences or a lack of value add-ons create a perception of low value product. “We need to get better at charging for add-ons that build on the experience. Memorabilia, lasting memories, gift shops etc.” Participant - Business Sector, 2021 3.9 Commercial Opportunities Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail, Culicagh Lakelands Geopark 39 Fermanagh Lakelands & Omagh and The Sperrins
