2022-2032 Vistitor Experience Development Plan
4.4 Become a temporary local Becoming a local in the Fermanagh and Omagh area was highlighted as being key to unique and memorable visitor experiences during the engagement phase of the project. It’s easy to overlook the intangible elements of tourism, the things that make it special and unique. This includes the people, the stories, the myths and legends, and just putting your feet up and meeting a friendly face at the end of the day. Over the course of the engagement we heard some fantastic stories about Fermanagh and Omagh such as the Gileroo, Pat Murphy’s House and many more. These stories are currently not being told but would help create the distinctiveness and lasting memories of a place that visitors will take away with them. Breaking down the barriers between the local and the visitor will enhance the visitor experience as well as help support the sustainability of key services and facilities for rural communities in Fermanagh and Omagh. Top 4 things that make this place special from the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council residents survey: - The community spirit, looking after one another and supporting each other. - Scenic beauty, picturesque mountains, lakes and farmlands. - Clean, tidy and well kept areas. - The people, their stories and their contributions to the community.
