2 I Age Friendly Strategy 2026 - 2030 Age Friendly Strategy 2026 - 2030 I 3 1. Introduction The plan recognises the eight Age Friendly domains set out by the World Health Organisation and has been developed following extensive consultation and conversation with older people and service providers. It recognises that Age Friendly initiatives impact across a range of areas including transport, housing, community participation, health and wellbeing. The Strategy and accompanying Action Plan are the responsibility of the local Age Friendly Alliance (AFA), a cross sectoral group, chaired by the Chief Executive of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council (FODC). Alliance members currently include representatives from the Public Health Agency (PHA), the Western Health and Social Care Trust (WHSCT), the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), Libraries NI, NI Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS), the Department for Infrastructure (DfI), Translink, the Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE) and the local Age Sector Network – South West Age Partnership (SWAP). This is the second Age Friendly Strategy for the Fermanagh and Omagh district and builds on the work of the previous Strategy. It has been developed to place our older people at the centre of an Age Friendly society, ensuring local voices are heard and supported to remain healthy, active and connected in their district and community. The AFA members are committed to working together over the next four years to achieve the vision and actions set out in this Strategy in order to establish an Age Friendly District. It seeks to do this through four key themes impacting on older people: The actions set out under these themes are intended to enhance the lives of older people, creating a vibrant, inclusive and caring community. Key to the success of the Strategy will be the active involvement of our older people as well as key stakeholders including the AFA, SWAP, and partners across the public, community and voluntary sectors.
