Fermanagh and Omagh District achieves Fairtrade status once again Come and Join Fermanagh & Omagh’s Access Advisory Groups In brief 16 in-FO in Fermanagh & Omagh | Winter 2022 The Fermanagh and Omagh District Council area has once again achieved Fairtrade status. The recognition reflects the district’s continued commitment to supporting Fairtrade and raising awareness of the many benefits that it brings to farmers and workers in developing countries. Fairtrade is a system of certification that aims to ensure that a set of standards are met in the production and supply of a product or ingredient. For farmers and workers, Fairtrade means workers’ rights, safer working conditions and fairer pay. For shoppers it means high quality, ethically produced products. There are over 1.9 million farmers and workers across more than 71 countries participating in Fairtrade. Locally we can play our part in supporting these farmers and workers by looking out for and choosing products with the Fairtrade mark such as tea, coffee, chocolate and bananas. For more information on Fairtrade, visit www.fairtrade.org.uk If you would like to become a member or to find out more information please telephone 0300 303 1777 , textphone 028 8225 6214 or email disability@fermanaghomagh.com i i Fermanagh and Omagh District Council’s Access Advisory Groups provide guidance on how the Council can make its services and activities more accessible for people with disabilities. We are keen to register new members, who represent a wide range of disabilities, to help make our services as inclusive as possible. The groups consist of local volunteers and support organisations who represent various disabilities, including physical, learning, sensory and hidden. Members of the group meet with Council staff members at least four times per year to provide feedback, share good practice and raise issues. Some representatives of the groups also meet with Councillors bi-monthly, as part of Disability Advisory Group, to share their opinions, as well as information on projects they have been involved in. The groups have action plans to help focus activity and record their progress. Some of the recent actions the groups have completed include taking part in mystery shopper audits, raising awareness of disabilities to the wider public and promoting celebration days. Members also regularly advise PHOTO????? staff members on new projects and developments, for example the new Grange Play Park and Enniskillen Public Realm Scheme.
