The village name originates from the Irish Béal meaning narrowing, referring to the village’s position on the narrow neck of water between upper and lower Lough MacNean. Derrygonnelly – population of 680 in the 2011 census. The village has a long history of Irish traditional music and each year in early October there is a celebration of local talent in memory of musicians Eddie Duffy and Mick Hoy. Musicians come from all over Ireland and from further afield to enjoy this festival. Derrylin – population of 634 in the 2011 census. Derrylin is home to one of Fermanagh's largest industrial facilities, Mannok cement plant. A glass plant also located in the village, is run by Encirc, which provides bottles for the drinks industry. Every bottle used by Baileys Liqueur is manufactured in the glass plant in Derrylin. The businesses employ about 2,000 people locally.
