in-FO Issue 14 Winter 2025

This year also marks a decade of Community Planning, with heartfelt contributions from all generations capturing the spirit of our District. Local voices have helped shape a shared vision for a more connected, inclusive and prosperous region. In a landmark move, the Council launched Northern Ireland’s first 10-year Anti-Poverty Strategy, reaffirming our commitment to supporting those most in need. Through initiatives like this, we continue to ensure that no one is left behind. In late Spring, eight designated areas including Forthill Park and Broadmeadow in Enniskillen, and Grange Park and St Julian’s Park in Omagh, were sown with specially selected flower seed mixes, timed to bloom throughout the summer months for the enjoyment of local residents and visitors alike. Local resident Luke Gallagher enjoying the blooms at the Grange Park, Omagh Pupils from Moat Primary School playing on the upgraded playpark in Lisnaskea Council Chair, Councillor Barry McElduff, shared his reflections on the journey so far and the bright future ahead: “Since 2015, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has supported communities, delivered high-quality services, and driven investment to improve residents’ wellbeing. We’ve led the District’s first Community Plan and worked in partnership to build an inclusive, thriving area. As we reach the halfway point of our anniversary year, we celebrate our achievements and look forward to an even stronger future.” Through investment in public realm improvements, playparks, business support and environmental sustainability, the Council continues to make a lasting difference. In September 2025, Elected Members attended a special event that provided a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the progress made since the Council’s formation in 2015. The gathering also served as a chance to recognise the vision, determination and collaboration that have driven positive change across our towns, villages and rural communities. Looking ahead, a celebration of the positive changes and incredible work being carried out by the community and voluntary sector across the District will take place in early 2026. As part of this, a digital archive will be launched to showcase Council-supported projects and initiatives, recognising achievements within the sector over the past decade. This archive will serve as both a historical record and an inspiration for future generations, demonstrating how partnership and community spirit can transform lives. “As we look ahead to the remainder of our anniversary year, we will continue celebrating ‘10 Years, One Voice’ and will be holding a special community recognition event to honour the dedication of our communities,” added Councillor McElduff. 5 10 Years
