A residents’ survey revealed that most residents were happy with the performance of the Council. However, in some areas there was variation in the level of satisfaction with the delivery of some services. Work will be undertaken to understand the underlying causes of the variation which will inform our ongoing work to transform and continuously improve Council services. The survey also revealed that a high proportion of respondents were unclear as to the services for which the Council is responsible. The Council has launched the “What Your Council Can Do For You” campaign providing a useful reference to the range of services we provide. As part of the campaign, an online A-Z directory was published which highlights contact details for the relevant organisations responsible for other services such as roads, street lighting and housing. This newsletter is available in alternative formats on request. Requests can be made to the PR & Customer Service team. All information is correct at time of going to print, however, may be subject to change. There are a fewmisconceptions about what the council is responsible for . . . If we can’t help we knowwho can. As we fast approach the end of the Council term, I am pleased that we can share several examples of work undertaken which are contributing to the delivery of the Community Plan ‘Fermanagh Omagh 2030’ and to commitments made in the Corporate Plan 2017-2019. Earlier this year we undertook a Residents’ Survey. Thankfully, most of our residents are satisfied with the Council, enjoy high levels of general health and are satisfied with the district as a place to live, so we are working from a good baseline, but we know there is still work to do, so we will continue to monitor, review and respond to residents’ needs. We recently published for consultation the draft Local Development Plan 2030, Draft Plan Strategy which sets out the framework for future planning and sustainable development of the District until 2030. This draft Plan impacts on all of our residents, businesses, visitors and stakeholders, so I would encourage everyone to respond by the consultation deadline of Friday 21 December 2018. Chairman’s Forward Chief Executive’s Message Welcome I recently visited China as part of a Northern Ireland delegation. While there, I travelled to the Huangshi region and signed a partnership agreement on behalf of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council undertaking to explore opportunities for both our district and Huangshi to work together in areas which would be mutually beneficial. Our Halloween and Christmas switch-on events in both Omagh and Enniskillen this year proved to be enormously successful with excellent crowds at all events. As we approach the festive season, I would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of the Councillors and staff, to wish you all a very happy, healthy and peaceful Christmas and New Year. Councillor Howard Thornton Chairman Regeneration work is progressing on the Enniskillen Town Improvement Scheme, with further work commencing shortly on street improvements in Enniskillen and Omagh. In partnership with South West College, we are also working to restore and conserve the former Enniskillen Workhouse. We are working in partnership with Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough and Mid Ulster Councils to develop a proposal and bring forward a Growth Deal to develop a strategic economic plan within the collective area. We will keep you updated on progress in future editions of in-FO. As the year draws to a close, may I, on behalf of all Council staff, extend Season’s Greetings to you and wish you well for the year ahead.
